Synopsis: Set before the reworked series, Blood & Chrome tells the story of newly graduated pilot William Adama embarking on his first mission is the first Cylon War, many years before we see Number 6 and the other human looking Cylons.
Main Cast: Luke Pasqualino, Lili Bordan, Ty Olssen, Ben Cotton, Mike Dopud, Jill Teed, John Pyper-Ferguson
The Hype: Beginning its life as 10 mini online episodes, they have been combined for a feature length DVD release and I had heard good things about it. I loved the series when it was on and figured I should watch this as an extension of that world.
What I Thought: Very good. In going back to a young Adama’s life, we can see the sort of things that shaped his character in the later series. Although this film focuses on just one particular mission, it would be conceivable that you could get a whole season out of it. The failure of Caprica on our screens seemed like the final nail in the coffin of Battlestar Galactica, but I think the cult following of this full length film may breathe life into the franchise once more. We can certainly hope.
Conclusions: Fans of the show Battlestar Galactica will really like this, and certainly more than Caprica. Some nice special effects and camera work, but to be immersed in a Cylon War once more is nice after a few years away from it.
