Today’s topic of discussion posed by Nicole at The Madlab Post is regarding movie titles. In particular loooooooooooong movie titles. I know that there have been some ridiculously long titles for movies and I shall post up some of those at the end, but for actual movies that I have seen, there are a few that immediately spring to mind. Now, I am assuming that the likes of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Rings will be the only Middle Earth movie allowed so I will just mention it in passing. My first actual choice of movie comes from much, much earlier in film history and starred one of the funniest men in cinema history, and guess what…he was a Brit.
Peter Sellers was brilliantly funny in The Goons, a radio program in the UK in the 50s and 60s, but he made the transition to film very easily and his writing talent was easy to see. Starring as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther films amongst other big films, but I think the film he is most remembered for has an incredibly long title… Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. How is that for a mouthful? What makes it a stand out film? The fact that Sellers played 3 different roles in the film but his portrayal of the mad Dr Strangelove himself that makes it such a loved film that just happens to have a very long title.
Now by a strange coincidence, my next choice stars a comedian who in a lot of ways reminds me of Peter Sellers. He has played roles that mirror Inspector Clouseau in a lot of ways and he again started out in the UK and made his name inĀ a low-budget comedy show called Da Ali G Show. Sacha Baron Cohen is one of those actors that, depending on the role is either really funny, or not funny at all. However, his movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was a huge commercial success all over the world and caused outrage in some places. I’m not a huge fan of the movie itself, but I figured it fit this topic of discussion very well. He is still rumoured to be playing the role of Freddie Mercury in a biopic at some point in the future but news on that is very hard to come by.
I shall leave you with a couple of notable mentions that I know nothing about, but after a little research managed to discover. Firstly, Homework, or How Pornography Saved the Split Family from Boredom and Improved their Financial Situation. Yeah I know, I don’t fancy seeing that either, and secondly and I think the longest movie title to date (although I could be wrong here) – Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D. That movie is 20 years old so maybe it has been bettered by now. Anyway, thanks for reading. Have fun all =)
