Synopsis: A true crime writer moves into the house where a mass killing took place in order to recapture his mojo and write a best-selling book once more. Little does he know that he has started a chain of events that he and his family may never escape.
Main Cast: Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ramone, Clare Foley, Vincent D’Onofrio, Nicholas King
The Hype: Nothing much, just the usual for a horror movie these days. Sinister is a typical low-budget affair but it has returned a much higher amount than I would have expected.
What I Thought: Alright, nothing earth shattering. Its your run of the mill “find a box of home movies in the loft” horror film. There were a few freaky bits in it, but nothing that had theĀ hair on the back of your neck standing on end and the plot was easy to work out . The acting is pretty bog standard and when it comes down to it, it’s just another horror movie. If you’ve got some time to kill, perhaps check it out, but don’t put it on your “must see” list. It actually did pretty well at the box office in terms of return on its budget, so not all bad for the studio. A sequel wouldn’t surprise me, but its a film that could stand alone also.
