Synopsis: Thor returns to Earth to try to help his love Jane Foster who has been possessed by a strange being which is said to have the power to end the 9 realms. Thor will have to defy his father and seek help from the unlikeliest of sources.
Main Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Porter, Stellan Skarsgaard, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Idris Elba
The Hype: Another superhero sequel to be stacked up against the likes of the Iron Man movies, The Avengers and Man Of Steel. A huge box office smash this one and the comic book film train just keeps on rolling.
What I Thought: Not bad, it was a good continuation on from where the last film left off, and there is plenty action in this sequel to keep us going and a nice side helping of special effects. Of course, the movie sets us up for yet another sequel and there is already a second Avengers movie in the works and there is a nice link at the end credits to one of these possibilities. The story isn’t the most complex – bad guy wants to destroy the world, gets so close but fails at the last hurdle and Thor manages to save the day, but not without his own tragedies. Oh and he gets the girl.
Conclusions: Good action and effects, reasonable story and a paycheck movie for the cast. Scope for more movies, but surely they can’t be making these forever can they? Personally, I’m tired of superhero movies and because it wasn’t an improvement on the first movie, I can’t give this an outstanding rating. Also a very understated performance from Christopher Eccleston who is better than this in my opinion.
