The Hype: Another in the X Men franchise, this follows on from the events of X Men: The Last Stand and Logan is still full of regret following the death of Jean Grey. It would appear that like most of us would like to think, the Origins movie never existed. By today’s standards this movie received a modest budget but the character of The Wolverine is still a popular one.

What I Thought: It was alright, nothing brilliant. To be honest, it’s a throw away X Men movie really. If they want to keep this franchise going, they would probably be better off just making a TV show out of it, but Jackman would never do it and it wouldn’t be successful purely because of that which is probably why they don’t make a TV show out of it. However, this movie could have easily been an example of one of its episodes. A long drawn out storyline that gives no explanation into who Viper is or why she is doing what she is doing. There are some neat effects, some crazy action, but on the whole it was just a run of the mill sci-fi action movie that didn’t really have the X Men factor that the franchise deserves. A small link to the upcoming Days of Future Past movie in the credits though so I guess it wasn’t all for nought.

Conclusions: Reasonable storyline, but the film only makes its money back on the fact that Hugh Jackman is still milking the cow until the well runs dry, and it will eventually. You could easily avoid this one unless you are a real die-hard completest.
