Synopsis: A group of magicians are tracked by a FBI agent and also Interpol in an international game of cat and mouse as they pull off bank robberies whilst performing their shows. The bonus for the audience is they get a share of the money.

Main Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Melanie Laurent

The Hype: In a year where there have been a couple of magic based movies, this movie did well at the box office. There was a very early trailer for this film and it certainly spiked my interest.

What I Thought: I liked this one a lot. I like magic anyway, proper magic I mean – not the standing in a perspex box for a week, that’s not magic. This crime, mystery thriller has you guessing right until the end of the movie, in very much the same way as The Prestige does. The story is intricate and challenging and the many twists and turns are fun and although you can work out some of the tricks, the visuals used are clever and well done. Dave Franco really does look like his older brother James by the way, I never realised how much until this movie. The direction is slick and fast paced in places. There is pretty much everything in this movie, action, excitement, magic, clever storytelling and of course some top performances from the likes of Morgan Freeman who is ice-cold and as calm as you like in his delivery of his character Thaddeus Bradley.

Conclusions: Great story, excellent cast, twists and turns and if you like magic, you should enjoy this movie. I certainly did.
