Synopsis: Hansel & Gretel are now all grown up and are basically bounty hunters. They seek out evil witches and kill them, but for a price. In this version of the classic fairy tale, a new evil superpower has come to try her hand at being the most powerful witch in all the land. It’s up to Hansel & Gretel to step in a save the day…if they can.

Main Cast: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Pihla Viitala, Thomas Mann, Peter Stormare

The Hype: Renner has been hot property over the past couple of years and this seemed like a fun spin on a classic story. Coming off the back of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, this bloodfest, 3D special effect filled film was sure to be pretty successful.

What I Thought: The best thing to do while watching this film is not to take it seriously. Do that and you will be disappointed. There is some good humour here. The story isn’t much but it’s not about that really. This is an enjoyable watch with some stand out 3D effects (although I didn’t see it in 3D, you can spot the big 3D scenes). The action is pretty exciting and the fights usually result in the squashing of someone’s head or being cut into a million pieces. All in all I thought the film does what it sets out to do and that is entertain the masses. It’s a silly movie, but enjoyable much like the aforementioned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was.

Conclusions: Good action, plenty of gore, nothing to think about, an entertaining 90 minutes.
