Synopsis: After seeing a magic instructional video, a small boy forms a partnership with a friend at school to learn and devise magic tricks. They then go on to become one of the greatest Las Vegas magic acts in history, until a new breed of magician comes along and turn their world upside down.

Main Cast: Steve Carrell, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde, Jim Carrey, James Gandolfini, Alan Arkin

The Hype: It’s a relatively low-budget Hollywood movie that gets these guys a steady paycheck. Put it this way, it won’t be tipped for any awards any time soon.

What I Thought: I actually found this quite entertaining. As a fan of Steve Carrell (for the most part) and magic, I quite fancied seeing this from a wile back. Also the fact that Jim Carrey seems to be doing comedy again was a draw as I can’t wait to see him in the up coming Kick Ass 2 movie and this role seems to have been a pre-cursor for him to get back into that kind of role. The story is the classic “good guys fall on bad times – then make it back to the good times” plotline, but its in the same vein as films like Happy Gilmore or Brewster’s Millions, that kind of idea. Leave your brain behind and just take it for what it is, 90 minutes of nothing really, but there are some really funny pieces of comedy in there aswell that will have you laughing hard.

Conclusions: Classic storyline, mindless entertainment, but enjoyable all the same.
