We are building up a head of steam now, and in this case literally. The letter “H” brings us into the world of Harry Potter and Co. In order to travel from London to Hogwarts School, the young Harry had to take a trip on the train leaving from Platform 9¾, a mean feat in itself. Once he travels through the wall he finds himself standing in front of The Hogwart’s Express. A magnificent steam train that will take all the young wizards back to school for their new term.
Harry of course meets his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger on the train itself and it is featured throughout the books and films, although only in a limited capacity; it is only a means of getting from a to b after all. The train itself is the GWR 4900 Class 5972 Olton Hall and it now has worldwide acclaim following the success of the stories. You can now buy merchandise in many a variety of toys from Lego to Hornby train sets and I suppose it is one of those modes of transport that like the DeLorean in Back to the Future will forever be remembered as one of the stars of the franchise.
The real engine itself can now be found at various displays and does run for tourism trips aswell. A nice retirement from acting I guess.
