Well the nominations are out folks. After what has seemed like an age to me, the films, actors, actresses, wardrobe departments, musicians and technical wizards have all been picked to represent their chosen field on 24th February of this year at the 85th Academy Awards. Now I’m not one for back slapping, but when it comes to movies I get all excited and look forward to people getting awards for film making.

So as I discussed with my wife a few days ago, I think this year’s nominations are very interesting indeed and they have thrown up a few surprises, but also unlike in previous years when one film has got all the nominations, there are quite a few films with a high amount of nominations.

The following 15 films received multiple nominations:

  • 12 nominations: Lincoln
  • 11 nominations: Life of Pi
  • 8 nominations: Les Misérables and Silver Linings Playbook
  • 7 nominations: Argo
  • 5 nominations: Amour, Django Unchained, Skyfall, and Zero Dark Thirty
  • 4 nominations: Anna Karenina and Beasts of the Southern Wild
  • 3 nominations: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Master
  • 2 nominations: Flight and Snow White and the Huntsman

A lot of choice here I think you’ll agree. I will now post a full list of nominees in each categories. The films/actors that I highlight in BLUE are the ones that I think WILL win their award. The names in RED are the ones that I WANT to win on what I have seen so far. I will edit this post once I have seen more films, perhaps my mind will be changed before February.
