Synopsis: First they kidnapped his daughter and he killed them all. Now they want to avenge their deaths and have now come after him. First though, the bad guys have to draw him out and what better way to do it that to kidnap his daughter AGAIN! (oh and his ex-wife…)
Main Cast: Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Leland Orser, John Gries, D.B Sweeney, Rade Serbedzija, Kevork Malikyan
The Hype: Following the successful hit Taken, this as expected to be more of the same and would definitely appeal to fans of the first movie. The movie doubled its budget and banked on people wanting to find out what happens to Bryan this time around. The gamble appears to have payed off with its success at the box office.
What I Thought: I found it as entertaining as the previous movie. Throwing all intelligence aside and watching the movie for what it is Taken 2 gives us an action ride akin to something that Steven Seagal or Van Damme would have done in the 80s/90s. Of course it doesn’t have either of those actors in it so it’s much better. The action is full on. OK so the plot isn’t anything mind-boggling but it easily plays out and although you know how it will end up, 90 minutes isn’t much to waste on a movie like this every now and then.
Conclusions: I enjoyed it for what it was and as I liked the first movie just the same. I am surprised that it took 3 years to make a sequel but Liam Neeson has been a busy man recently. Whether they continue the franchise remains to be seen, but I don’t think there is much more they can do with this, although there seems to be a lot of positive vibes coming out of Hollywood about Taken 3 actually happening so fans may still get another taste of Bryan Mills‘ wrath yet.
