Synopsis: After taking the blame for Harvey Dent’s crimes, Batman has “retired” and eight years later, Bruce Wayne is a recluse. That is until a new enemy appears to give Gotham back to its people and in so doing, calls Batman back into action, but who will triumph – good or evil?
Main Cast: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman, Matthew Modine, Michael Caine
The Hype: One of the most anticipated movies of the year, The Dark Knight Rises will be the last movie that Christopher Nolan has a hand in the present franchise. Rumour has it that the next stage of the Batman movies will be The Justice League rather than a complete Batman reboot, but I’m guessing it will be similar in style to the Avengers movies.
What I Thought: I was equally as let down with the movie from seeing the trailer as I was when I saw The Dark Knight featuring The Joker. Bale & Co. have clearly not learned from the fans outcry last time around about the STUPID VOICE! Is there really any need to sound like you have a jar full of rusty nails stuck in your throat every time you open your mouth? Not only that, the bad guy, Bane, had his face covered in a mask that helps him to talk. Tom Hardy’s part has been dubbed over so that you can actually hear what he says, but it is so loud that it sounds ridiculous and that lack of any form of head movement makes the speech look unnatural. Doing well so far huh? The film is TOO LONG! It’s nearly 3 hours in length. The plot line could have been covered in an hour less to be fair and it wasn’t much of a story truth be told. My last big gripe was the fact that the camera fails to catch Anne Hathaway’s lovely legs and bum. There is ONE shot of her leaning over on the BatBike and this is simply not acceptable! However, my last point isn’t taken into account when giving this film its score… 😉
Conclusions: Too long, thin plot, silly voices, also I always thought the title of the film was a cop-out. The same as the last one but lets just stick a resurrection type word on the end of it, not very original. I have seen much better films this year and The Dark Knight Rises impressed me as much as The Avengers did, not that much considering their hype.
