The Hype: Major. Big scale marketing including Comic Con, public flash mobs, big money trailers, and the usual billboarding are going to ensure that this movie will be a hit. Fans are loving it and hardcore gamers will see it whatever the outcome.
What I Thought: This was actually one of the better films I have seen lately. Ok, so there isn’t much of a plot, but you don’t expect one here. The story does carry on from the previous movie which I also liked. The special effects are great and there will be some stand out 3D moments if you choose to see it that way. The fight sequences are slick and there are plenty of them. For me though, one of the high points of the film was the amount of eye candy there is on show here. I love Alice anyway, but character Jill Valentine is pretty hot and the addition of Ada Wong is good too. Director Paul W.S. Anderson has done a good job here and has said that a sixth and final film will conclude the series if Retribution is a commercial success. I have no doubt of this.
Conclusions: Fans of the game and previous films will love this movie. If you aren’t a hardcore gamer, but enjoyed the last movie, then you should like this one. I’m not sure if there are enough 3D moments to warrant paying extra for it, but it’s easy to see where there will be and I think they will look great with the glasses on.
Smurfin’ The Web Rating: Like Premium Rush, a good
