Synopsis: A group of scientists and a ship’s crew depart for the stars in the attempt to discover the origins of mankind. A prequel movie to Ridley Scott’s Alien. Who knows what they will find on a desolate planet, the answer or simply more questions?
Main Cast: Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green
The Hype: Is it, isn’t it – this was the question regarding this movie when it was announced. After much deliberation and rumour, director Ridley Scott finally admitted that Prometheus was in fact a prequel to the 1979 classic Alien. That sent the movie world gaga and the trailer certainly didn’t disappoint either. I couldn’t wait to see this movie just like millions of others who have enjoyed the Alien series.
What I Thought: Good, but not as good as I thought it would be. The cast is great although some do have very minor roles. Michael Fassbender steals the show easily here as the robot David. The look of the movie is great and the Alien universe has been very nicely recreated and of course since this is an origin story of sorts, there are a few new things in here aswell. I have no problem with people making prequels. What I do find very annoying is when they add things in those prequel movies that are completely neglected to be mentioned in the original movie. This movie has a few moments like that which did bug me slightly. I didn’t mind the end of the film though that seems to have split opinion amongst movie goers.
Conclusions: As Catchphrase host Roy Walker would have said here in the UK, “It’s good but it’s not right”. I liked it, but a slight anti climax and small continuity errors did annoy me somewhat.
