Synopsis: A squad of American soldiers whose plan to kill the leading members of the Third Reich crosses paths with a lone female cinema owner who has the same idea, with deadly consequences.

The Hype: The name Quentin Tarantino brings its own hype really. The successes of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs I suppose are now something of legend in Hollywood terms, and because of the name attached to the director’s chair, the film was bound to be a box office smash.
What I Thought: Absolute garbage! I have never been a fan of Tarantino and have never bought into the hype that surrounds the aforementioned films. I find his work hard viewing, not because of the violence, I can handle that, but the gratuitous nature of it. Its violence for violence’s sake. He seems to enjoy trying to push that acceptability boundary just that little bit further and personally that’s not for me. I like a good story, Inglorious Basterds doesn’t have one. The only thing I did like about the film was the performance by Christophe Waltz of the character Colonel Hans Landa. The SS officer was unnervingly calm when it came to questioning suspects and I found his demeanour amusing for the seriousness of the role. He rightly won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this movie but it wasn’t enough for me to enjoy the two and a half hours of film before me.
Conclusions: Typical Quentin Tarantino. If you are a fan, then you’ll probably like this film. If, like me you don’t buy into hype then you would be better suited watching something else in my opinion which of course is what it all boils down to, personal opinion. This movie wasn’t for me. Sorry all you Tarantino fans screaming “what the hell are you on about!”

If you could take out the besterds, this would be a good film. 2 of my favourite scenes ever are in this film. The opening scene with the SS colonel and the guy hiding the jews. Also the bar scene with Michael Fassbender’s British spy character where it goes tits up after he is rumbled. Both very tense scenes. But i agree, i could have done without Brad Pitt and his pals.
Those are the stand out moments in the film I agree, but it just enough to warrant 2 and half hours is it?
