Synopsis: When John Bennett makes a Christmas wish, the present of a teddy bear becomes a real talking friend that will be with him for the rest of his life, testing John’s long term relationship with his girlfriend when he is 35 to the limit.
Main Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane, Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Stewart as The Narrator, and a special guest star that I won’t name for fear of spoiling the surprise.
The Hype: Touted as one of the funniest movies of the year, the winning formula of Seth MacFarlane’s writing and direction coupled with a talking bear is a sure fire hit. The Family Guy creator’s name alone attached to this project will get bums on seats.
What I Thought: I saw the trailer for this a while back and thought it was hilarious. It looks like one of those 80s family movies that you used to rent on a Saturday night as the kids treat for the week. What you get instead is a very funny film filled with that evil Seth MacFarlane twist of dark humour, foul language and innuendo for an hour and a half. Oh and a huge helping of Flash Gordon thrown in which for any fan of that film makes Ted even better. It’s basically a love story, but funnier and dirtier and the kind of movie you always wanted those 80s family movies to turn into when you were a childish adolescent teenager.
Conclusions: Funny, filthy and full of some great nostalgia for those of us of a certain age. It’s worth a watch and there are even some nice moments, but they are quickly shot down by a very good funny line, usually containing a swear word or ten…
