And so normal service is resumed after Sunday’s emergency post regarding the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas by Chelsea. That news seems to have overtaken everything lately and for the moment I am going to argue my opinions no more. I think the majority of folks consider it a big mistake by the club and its owner and I personally think that the decision is going to come back and haunt us big time in the future.

Following last night’s result at Old Trafford, and its something I have thought for a while considering his team’s performance in the Spanish league, Athletic Bilbao’s manager Marcelo Bielsa is going to be a certainty to be high in the running for the vacant post at Chelsea come the summer if his current team’s form keeps up. He’ll be the next “big name, quickly successful” name to be mentioned by all the pundits very soon. Just remember, you heard it here first. Personally, there is little to choose from really, but I’d certainly be happy with David Moyes, but I think he’s too sensible to take it on.

Moving on from Chelsea for the moment (because I’m bored about chatting about them just now) it was great to see Lionel Messi do yet another “first” by scoring 5 goals in a Champions League match on Wednesday. Barcelona crushed Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 in the 2nd leg of their tie and I think that in years to come our children will be talking about Messi like we talk about Pele. The little Argentinian is possibly one of, if not the best footballer the world has ever seen and with performances like these who can deny it? With a career total of 247 goals in 382 games in all competitions including internationals, and still only 24 years old, he literally has the world at his feet, and like a football for the time being, its stuck to it!

Theres not that much happening other than that in the world of football really just now. As the business end of the season begins for many clubs, it remains to be seen who will be the big winners and losers this year. Will experience triumph once more or is it going to be the big money that takes the victories this year? Still a few games to go yet, but teams can’t afford to be making silly mistakes at this stage.
