A huge thank you to Nicole at The Madlab Post for taking over duties these past couple of weeks. I shall return next week with my own choice of topic, but this week Nicole has come up with a good one. She is doing “Role Call” this week and has asked us all to come up with movies where the main character’s name also doubles as the title of the film. I have some good ones here. Great topic Nicole and thanks again for looking after things in my absence.

So let’s get straight on with it and possibly one of the greatest films of the 80s and possibly even ever made…

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has to be listed in movie history as its generation’s Easy Rider in terms of affinity with an era and the lifestyle choices along with the material possessions we had or wanted. It has great writing, direction from John Hughes and of course the cast was brilliant. Matthew Broderick was just out of short trousers at the time and although Alan Ruck was a much older actor than his character, he portrays Ferris’ best friend Cameron brilliantly. I especially like the lines to camera that Broderick makes that make us as the viewer feel like we are spending that day with them all aswell so we don’t feel left out. Genius in all aspects I feel. The don’t make them like this anymore, not as good as this one.

Secondly, I shall mention the Rocky series. I liked the original and thought that it deserved all the awards that it won. However, it’s not the best one in the franchise. That accolade belongs to the fourth movie. Again in a real sign of the times between the East and West of the world, the movie is the big fight between Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), the man responsible for causing the death of Rocky’s old opponent, mentor and trainer Apollo Creed played of course by the marvellous Carl Weathers. Sorry if I just spoiled it a little for you, but if you haven’t seen this movie – where have you been?! It’s a real montage-fest this one! You gotta love it.

Lastly, a film that I ended up watching by default. I wasn’t too bothered about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but my wife wanted to see it and I kinda got sucked into it. An interesting movie for sure and I have to say that the end was pretty sad, but I think it was because it involved a baby. If you get the chance to see it, I would say its worth a whirl. Brad Pitt has actually grown on me these past few years and seems to be doing more of this kind of movie as opposed to the action thrillers he did for some time, although I think a new Ocean’s movie is well overdue. Oh there’s another one! Ocean’s Eleven. Get stuck in folks and give it a go.

See you all again next week and thanks for reading =)
